Our Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend, Petra G. Salazar of Holbrook, Arizona died at the young age of 82 on December 30, 2011. Born, February 22, 1929, Petra Baca, in El Tule, Arizona to the late Jose and Teresa Baca. She was raised in St. Johns, Arizona and graduated from St. Johns High School. In her quest for education, Petra attended Siena Heights University Convent, where she studies to become a nun, accompied by her sister, Viola. It was cut short in her second year to return to care for their mother. Petra met her future husband, Eloy in St. Johns, and married him on May 21, 1955 and soon moved to Holbrook, Arizona to start raising a family and making it their hometown. Petra worked at St. Johns hospital and Holbrook hospital for a number of years and also enjoyed being a teacher's aide at Hulet Elementary, these helped give her a diversity of talents that she shared throughout the years with her family and friends. Petra also coached her sons' softball teams (she'd even pick up kids in the old Studebaker truck) and helped coach her daughter's team. Petra enjoyed her friends, and you were never a stranger, in conversation. Petra dearly loved her family, her grandchildren, laughter, sewing, upholstering, cooking, baking, gardening, singing, dancing, watching sports, visiting family, driving and going out on the town with her husband. It has often been said that "Petra had a style about her." Preceded in death by her sister and bothers: Flora Garcia, Andres Baca, Rumaldo Baca, Aresteo Baca and Senito Baca. Petra is survived by her devoted husband Eloy; her beloved children: Timothy (Joan) Salazar, of Encintas, CA, Peter (Susan) Salazar, Seattle, WA, Margaret Seguirant of Kailua, HI; her wonderful grandchildren: Teresa Salazar, Adrian Salazar, Matthew Salazar, Monica Salazar, Natalie Salazar and Daniel Seguirant; her honorary grandchildren: Kimberley Anselmo, Randall Anselmo, Logan Anselmo; sisters: Rosa Garcia, Viola Valdivia, Erlinda Salazar, Patricia (Lupe) Tafoya; brothers: Fred (Velma) Baca, Reggie (Barbara) Baca; beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. And of course, longtime family friends from Holbrook, St. Johns and the surrounding areas. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will begin 10:00 A.M. Friday January 6, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 212 E. Arizona Street in Holbrook, Arizona with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 9:30 A.M. The committal service and Inurnment will immediately follow at the Holbrook Cemetery. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather at a reception that will begin at 12:00 Noon at the Family Center across the street from the church.
