Elaine Sue Maltby

May 17, 1955 — October 30, 2011

Elaine Sue McKenrick-Maltby, age 56, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low, Navajo County, Arizona. She was born in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa to Marvin Eugene and Patsy Doane (Keenan) McKenrick on May 17, 1955. Elaine lived most of her life in South Lake Tahoe, California before moving to Las Vegas with her husband, Gregg Maltby. Here she was surrounded by her children, Shannon Takahashi, John Walker and Kyle Bugge, along with her grandchildren, Destiny and Derrick Takahashi. Elaine also had another son, Jason Challenger, who resides in Oregon with his wife and children. Family was important to Elaine and she often was her family's matriarch. When she was not home spending time with her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed the beach and her rose garden. She would make trips to the beach whenever possible, often taking long walks looking for shells. Her roses always thrived under her care and were just as beautiful as the grower was. For the last two years, Elaine suffered some medical set backs and began to live in Show Low, Arizona with her father. Here she was also closer to her brother Dave, sister-in-law Theresa, and her sister Jodi. This allowed them to take care of each other and spend quality time together. The family was aware of her illness, however her passing was unexpected. It was Elaine's wishes to not have a memorial service and to be cremated. The family came together and honored their beloved mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and great friend in fulfilling her wishes. Elaine is survived by her father, Marvin McKenrick; husband, Gregg Maltby; children, Jason and Erin Challenger, Shannon and Jason Takahashi, John Walker and Kyle Bugge; siblings, Marvin and Roslyn McKenrick, Jr., Dave and Teresa McKenrick, Mary Hochstetter, Linda McKenrick, Jodi and Brad Pagnini; grandchildren, Riley Challenger, Destiny Takahashi, Olivia Challenger, Chelsea Challenger, Derrick Takahashi, Ethan Challenger. There are also many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that she cherished and loved whole heartedly. She will be forever loved and missed by all.
