Lucile Eyring Peterson

February 15, 1923 — October 25, 2011

Lucile Eyring Peterson passed away peacefully at her home in Snowflake, Navajo County, Arizona on Tuesday night, October 25, 2011. She was 88 years old. She was born on February 15, 1923 in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona to the late Andrew Theodore and Edith (Haws) Eyring. Lucile was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her long life including Primary President and Relief Society President. When Lucile was called to be the Relief Society President at the age of 76, some of the other women were nervous because, they said, "If Lucile could be called to that position, at her age, then nobody was safe." Lucile married Don L Peterson on May 23, 1945 in Oakland, Alameda County, California while he was serving in The U.S. Navy. Their marriage was later solemnized, as they were sealed together for time and all eternity, in The Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was just before their 66th wedding anniversary that Don L died on May 7, 2011. She missed him tremendously. In her childhood, Lucile had stayed in the Mesa and Chandler area but her life completely changed after her marriage to Don L. They lived in many places throughout the state including: Fort Huachuca, Keams Canyon and Ganado. During that time, she did many acts of service including acting as chauffeur for church members who didn't have cars of their own. After Don L retired, the two served 4 separate missions for the LDS Church to: Costa Rica and Panama, Guatemala, Chile, as well as a mission to New York City. They were also able to tour Europe while visiting their son, Richard, in Germany and traveled to Canada many times to visit their daughter, Donna. They both enjoyed their travels so much because they brought them closer together. Also, for many years, Lucile and Don L served as Temple Workers in both the Mesa and Snowflake Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lucile loved her church callings and missionary service whether it was near her home or in the many places across the world. She was proud of her pioneer heritage and genealogy and was always excited to learn more. When she found a new person in her large extended family, she was eager to share the knowledge. Along with her parents and husband, Lucile was preceded in death by her brother, Wendell and her sister, Leona. She is survived by her 4 children: Donna Rescorla of Snowflake, Arizona, Don Peterson of Spanish Fork, Utah, Richard Peterson of Holbrook, Arizona, Douglas (Nina) of Springville, Utah; 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. The visitation for Lucile will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, November 4, 2011 at Owens Livingston Mortuary - Heritage Chapel, 84 E. 19th South in Snowflake, Arizona. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Temple View Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2885 W. Highway 277 in Snowflake, Arizona, where additional visitation will be 1 hour prior. The concluding service and interment will follow at the R.V. "Mike" Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake, Arizona, where she will be laid to rest alongside her Eternal Sweetheart, Don L. Lucile's family would like to express their gratitude to everyone who has expressed their sympathies through thought and deed. They are especially grateful to all the church members and neighbors who offered up prayers on their behalf and gave Lucile such sweet service.
