Emily Lavina Phillips entered into peaceful sleep on Friday, July 1, 2011 in Sun City West, Arizona. She was 88 years old. Emily was born on May 1, 1923 in Cooley, Apache County, Arizona to the late Charles and Lydia (Jackson) Brown, the ninth of ten children. Emily married Foch Phillips in January 1947 in St. Johns, Arizona and was blessed to have celebrated their love, devotion and friendship for 56 years. Foch and Emily lived in the logging camp of Maverick, Arizona where Emily worked for Foch doing administrative work. In 1964, they moved their family to Lakeside, Arizona where Emily worked for Navopache Electric until 1973 when they moved to Roosevelt, Arizona. In 1988 Foch and Emily moved to Kearny, Arizona where they resided until Foch's passing in January of 2003. Emily then moved to the Phoenix metro area to be near her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Emily loved spending time with those she loved and her summers in Lakeside. Her greatest joy was time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Emily is survived by: her daughter, Sheila (Sam) Mecham; 2 sons: Guy (Deloras) Phillips, Alma (Carol) Naegle; 8 grandchildren: Connie, Melissa, Mona, Nicole, Liberty, Gyann, Jon, Clay; 8 great-grandchildren: Rhianna, Nicole, Kenneth, Eryn, Emily, Hannah, Clayton, Lilly; 1 sister, Mittie Magill; 1 sister-in-law, Geraldine (Jim) Banks; 2 brothers-in-law: Guy (Genevieve) Phillips and Jap (Ginger) Phillips. A graveside service for Emily will begin 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Lakeside Cemetery in Lakeside, Arizona. Memorial contributions, Emily's name, to Hospice of The Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85014 have been suggested by her family.
