Robert Lester Bush

Robert Lester Bush, USAF, Ret., died Wednesday night, April 27, 2011 at his home in Heber, Navajo County, Arizona following a sudden illness. He was 83 years old. Robert was born to his parents on September 13, 1927 in Raymond, Pacific County, Washington. As a young man, Robert recognized his patriotic spirit and heard the call of his country. Right after receiving his high school education he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1946. He dedicated his life to serving and protecting the borders of this great nation. He retired from the Air Force as Master Sergeant. During his time in the service, Master Sgt. Bush received several Good Conduct Medals and many Bronze Loops. In 1967, during the height of the Vietnam War, he was honored when he received a Letter of Favorable Communication for the professional services he rendered in telephone maintenance for the 31st Tactical Unit Operations Center. He worked both day and night and gave much of his off duty time in accomplishing many tasks. Also, that same year, he was the recipient of The Air Force Commendation Medal by distinguishing himself by his meritorious service as a Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Base Communications Maintenance, 1884th Communications Squadron, Tuy Hoa Air Base, in the Republic of Vietnam. Upon his retirement in 1969, he received a Letter of Appreciation from Major General, David M. Jones, in recognition of dedicated service. His family was so very proud of him as he truly was an American Hero. He married Christa Baird in February 1985. They enjoyed his retirement years living in the beautiful White Mountains, calling Heber their "home." He was a lover of the great-out-of-doors and in his younger years he truly appreciated the peacefulness he felt while fishing at a quiet stream or lake. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the country. Robert was a devoted and loving husband to his wife and was a cherished step-father and step-grandfather. He was a great supporter to his family and will be greatly missed by them. Robert Lester Bush is survived by his wife, Christa Bush of Heber, Arizona; his 2 daughters, Heidi (Henry) Hampton and Debbie (Albert) Holloway; his step-children: Elena Wayne, Natasha Nichelson, Matthew Baird; grandchildren: Mike, Tammy, Ryan, Evan and Emily; step-grandchildren: Mikaela, Derek, Jessica, Dylan, Joshua and Christopher. The memorial service for Robert will begin 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the First Southern Baptist Church, 2727 Church Lane in Overgaard, Arizona where Pastor Rick Butterworth will officiate. A luncheon will follow the services and all are invited to attend.
