Betty Lou Powers, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,sister and friend, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 82. She was born on July 28, 1928 in Miami, Ottawa County, Oklahoma to the late Kenneth and Clara (Jordan) Ray. Betty Lou was very much involved with her communities' activities and was a founding member of the Pine Needlers of Heber Overgaard. She knew the value of a good education and used her Bachelor's Degree to obtain a teaching certificate. She was a dedicated and accomplished High School English teacher for 35 years. She loved her students, and they, in return, loved her. Betty Lou is survived by 2 children: T. Dwight Powers of Springerville, Arizona, Lisa Powers of Mayer, Arizona; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Marlene Riek of Tyler, Texas and her special friend, David Meyer of Overgaard, Arizona. In addition to her parents, Betty Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Eli Powers in 1984. Betty Lou's funeral service will begin 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, Arizona where the visitation will begin 1 hour prior. The concluding service and interment will follow at the Show Low Cemetery in Show Low. The services will be presided by Pastor Rick Butterworth.
