Lenora Mae Whiting

May 19, 1944 — March 17, 2011

Lenora Mae Whiting died in the early morning hours of March 17, 2011 at the Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low, Arizona after a courageous and valiant battle with breast cancer. As her daughter, Kristi, so eloquently put it, "Mom had her beautiful sunrise to take to Heaven. She would have loved that." Lenora was born on May 19, 1944 in McNary, Arizona to the late Oren Bruce and Nellie Violet (Slade) Lilly. She graduated from Page High School in northern Arizona where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Lenora has always been an organized individual and in her younger years she was an excellent secretary. She and her life's love, Charles Emil "Charlie" Whiting were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He died last year on April 24, 2010 and, for several years prior to his death, she devoted her life to his care. She loved him greatly. Her family finds comfort in the fact that they are together again. Lenora was an active member of The Church and gave of herself in Christ-like service to others. She was able to serve in many callings in the different wards that she lived in; from teaching children in the Primary to serving her church sisters in the Relief Society. Lenora magnified her Church callings throughout her life because she had a tremendous love for The Savior. She was a loving wife and mother to her family and truly knew how to make her house a home. Her grandchildren were always a welcomed distraction and she loved to dote on them. Lenora was very gifted. On top of keeping an impeccably neat home she also was able to work on her handicrafts and numerous sewing projects; from patch repairs and personalized tailoring to designing and cutting patterns to making complete outfits. She, too, was an artist and thoroughly enjoyed drawing. Her talents have truly been blessings in her family's life and many of her projects are now considered priceless "treasures" to them. Lenora was a good friend to many and all can attest that "to know her was to love her." Lenora Mae Whiting is survived by: her 3 children: Darin (Johanna) Whiting, Kristi (Laren) Ellsworth, Staci Whiting; 2 sisters: Lorrain (Merwyn) Fish, Linda (Robert) Douglas, 1 brother, Loren (Jill) Lilly; 2 half-sisters: Irene (John) Darney, Chrystal (Dean) Martineau; sister-in-law, Lee Lilly and 9 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 25, 2011 at Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, Arizona. The Funeral Service will begin 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Downtown Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 300 N. 11th Street in Show Low, Arizona.
