Elwood Allan Thompson, of Snowflake, Arizona passed away surrounded by his loving family, February 13, 2011 at Sierra Blanca Rehabilitation Center in Lakeside, Arizona. He was 83. Elwood was born January 25, 1928 in Newark, Ohio to the late Arthur and Bennie (Simmons) Thompson. A veteran of the US Army, Elwood served in Occupied Japan where he holds the record for the longest teletyped message from Japan to Washington. He served as a Supervisor for many different construction companies, including Oakland, ICS, Porter Brothers, and Chris Evans where he helped build many buildings throughout Arizona. Those building include the APS building in Snowflake, Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, Ganado High School in Ganado, Indian Wells School in Indian Wells and the Domes in Heber. He will be missed by many. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sierra Blanca for the excellent care provided to both Elwood and their family. A loving husband to Karen Thompson of Snowflake, Arizona; father to, Debi (Craig, Sr.) Rutherford of Snowflake, Arizona, Linda (Ervin) Hatch of Mesa, Arizona, Jill (Cole) Morris of Lake Havasu, Arizona, BethAnn (Matt) Sands of Keller, Texas, Doug Barnes of Snowflake, Arizona, James Christopher (Elizabeth) Thompson of Victoria, Texas, Mike (LaRen) Thompson of Snowflake, Arizona; Pop to Bev, Mark, Vicky, Juliene, Eddie, Becky; grandpa to Jenifer, Jessica, Craig Jr., Curtis, Sara, Bonny, Joseph, Chad Kylie, CJ, Case, Emma, Nicole, Sam, Max, Brennon, Jurnee, Tyler, Mason, Ryker, Aiden, Beckett, Everly and 3 on the way; great-grandpa to Sebastian, Gage and Kambry or ("Toyota" as great grandpa would say). He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jack Barnes and a great-grandson, Benjamin Johnson. A viewing and visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00PM Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the Owens Livingston Mortuary~Heritage Chapel, 84 E. 19th S., Snowflake and one hour prior to the services. Funeral services will be held 10:00AM Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Mainstreet Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 48 N. Mainsteet, Snowflake. Interment will be in the R.V. "Mike" Ramsay Memorial Cemetery.
