Richard Earl Bradfield died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Woodland Park in Pinetop, Arizona as he was out for his daily run. He was 67 years old. Richard was born on October 16, 1943 in Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas to the late Benjamin and Hazel Virginia (Lewis) Friend. As a little boy, Richard's father passed away. His mother later married William Lee Bradfield. When Richard was a young man, Mr. Bradfield legally adopted him and gave him his name. When he was just a few months shy of his 20th birthday, Richard enlisted himself in The United States Air Force in Raleigh, North Carolina. After nearly 4 years of faithful service he received his honorable discharge from the military on June 23, 1967. His family was so proud of the sacrifices he made in order to protect the liberties that we, as a nation, now enjoy. A naturally gifted and brilliant man, Richard new the importance of having a good education. Richard excelled in his studies and received a Doctorate degree. He spent the remainder of his working years teaching others as a professor of education. Richard was a loving family man and enjoyed caring for the individual needs of every member of his family. He truly will be missed. He is survived by his children, Yvette, Nicole, Richard, Dana; grandchildren, Daniel, Brooks, Logan, Auriana, Kyle, Anthony, Alexis, Lucky, Brittany, Salissa and Alec. Private services will be held this summer.
