Maria Eva Jeffers died, rather unexpectedly, on Monday, January 3, 2011 at her daughter's home in Holbrook, Arizona. She was 71 years old. Maria was born on November 8, 1939 in the city of San Jose de Racies in the state of Nuevo Leon in Mexico to the late Juan Francisco and Cleotilda (Alejandro) Luna. Maria spent her younger years in Mexico and Texas. While working for Tom Reed at The Reed Ranch near Snowflake, Arizona, she met and married the love of her life, J.C. (Cooney) Jeffers. They resided in Holbrook where they ran The Jeffers Ranch together. They were blessed with one daughter, Ivah. Later, Maria and her daughter, Ivah, owned and operated Ivah's Dress Shop in Holbrook for many years. The building still stands right on Hopi Street near the downtown. Maria loved to paint and spend time with her granddaughters. She also thoroughly enjoyed to watch her granddaughters compete with their various horse competitions. She was so proud of them. Maria is survived by: her daughter, Ivah Jeffers-Sample (Mike) of Holbrook, Arizona; 2 granddaughters: Ashley and Alexandra both of Holbrook, Arizona; 5 brothers: Juan Luna of Mexico, Paul Luna of San Antonio, Texas, Adam Luna of Holbrook, Arizona, Richard Luna of Amarillo, Texas, Pantaleon Luna of Arlington, Texas; 2 sisters: Teresa Luna of Holbrook, Arizona, and Cleo Commons of Mesa, Arizona. Along with her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Jeffers in 1989. The funeral service for Maria will begin 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the First Assembly of God Church, 500 Mission Lane in Holbrook, Arizona where the visitation will begin 1 hour prior. Arrangements are being cared for by Owens Livingston Mortuary - Holbrook Chapel. Maria's family truly appreciates all of the acts of kindness and prayers that have been given them during this difficult time.
