Gladys Holladay, of Show Low, Arizona passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 at her home in Show Low. She was 102. Gladys was born October 28, 1908 in Show Low, Arizona to the late Frank and Maggie (Jensen) Adams. She had 3 sisters: May (Ray) Butler, Alice (Wal) Penrod, Jane (Harvey) Callaway and 2 brothers: John (Jane) Adams and Ross (Georgia) Adams. Her mother, Maggie, died when Gladys was 5 years old. Her father, Frank, later married Christina Hansen "Aunt Dena" and together, they had 7 more children: Lenard, Chet, Georgia, Mettie, Glen, Harvey and Shirley. Aunt Dena was a wonderful mother to ALL 13 children. On June 14, 1926 Gladys married her sweetheart, Garnet Holladay. They had 5 sons: Mel, Val Dee, Narvel, Devon and Terry. For several years they lived in McNary. Gladys helped Dr. Dysterheft as a midwife. She would take mothers and newborn babies to her home to care for them if the hospital was full. She also worked at the local theatre. In 1952 they purchased a home on Huning Street in Show Low and this is where she spent the rest of her life. She helped her brother, Ross, at his Cafe as a waitress for sometime. She was a very meticulous person, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. Her home and yards were always neat and clean, she was perfectionist by hand she made crochet and embroidery work and loved to be busy. Gladys was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many hours in different positions. She is survived by her 3 sisters: Georgia Kay of St. George, Utah, Mettie Elrod of Glendale, Shirley (Ken) Hatch of Taylor; 1 brother, Harvey (Linda) Adams of Show Low; son, Terry (Carol) Holladay of Taylor; daughter-in-law, Molly Holladay of Lexington, KY; 15 grandchildren: Connie Holladay of Mesa, Steve Holladay of Prescott, Kay Lynn Holladay of Mesa, Deryl Holladay of Snowflake, Cheryl (Brian) Davis of Mesa, Dean (Donna) Holladay of Show Low, Chris (Teresa) Holladay of Show Low, Bridget (Benson) Hill of Lexington, KY, Carla (Ray) Bryant of Coram, NY, Thiry Holladay of Show Low, Rick Holladay of Show Low, Tommy Holladay (deceased), Stacy (Brian) Rollins of Snowflake, Daylan (Stephanie) Holladay of Blythe, CA, Brett (Tobi) Rapier of Snowflake; 64 great-grandchildren; 98 great-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Gladys will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was the happiest when someone would stop by to visit. We are grateful for the Hospice Staff who helped us care for our Mom the last few years. A visitation will be 9:00 A.M. Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Downtown Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the funeral to begin at 10:00 A.M. The Interment will be at the Show Low Cemetery.
