Marthann Yazzie

November 10, 1957 — November 22, 2010

Marthann Yazzie, of Phoenix, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. She was 53. Marthann was born November 10, 1957 in Cibecue Junction, Arizona to the late Wilson Zospah, Sr. and Violet Foster Zospah. The "Martha Stewart" of her time, she loved to cook and sew. All of her sewing was done by hand and with love for her family. She was a very artistic woman and an amazing painter. She loved to play the guitar and sing. Marthann was always singing Carol King songs whenever she could and was known for stealing her brother's guitar so she had an instrument to accompany her. Respected for her adventurous ways, she was quite the story-teller. An amazing listener, she was always there for you. Marthann was very selfless and kind-hearted. She was the best friend anyone could have, no matter who it may be; friend or foe, she always made time to listen. Being only a phone call away, she was a mother to all. She was very understanding and serious, but was known for her sense of humor. She attended Brigham Young University in Utah for a number of years before returning home to Arizona to be with her family. Marthann was much loved and will be missed all. She is survived by her sons: Brian Yazzie (Gail) of Dickinson, North Dakota, Byron Yazzie of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Jessica Yazzie of Phoenix, Arizona; fiancé, Tommy Lopez of Phoenix, Arizona; husband, Guy Yazzie of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren: Brycen, Vida, Teresa, Kimberly; sister, Trudy Zospah of Carrizo, Arizona; brothers: Louis Zospah of Carrizo, Arizona, Benny Zospah, Sr. (Corine) of Seven Mile, Arizona, Wilson Zospah, Jr. (Cecilia) Crown Point, New Mexico, as well as many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Bryson Yazzie; 2 brothers, Wilber and Kirby Zospah; sister, Marianna Zospah. A two night wake will begin 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the family residence, 150 Corduroy Court #10, Carrizo, Arizona. Home services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 3, 2010 at the family residence with the burial to follow in the family plot in the Hilltop Cemetery in Carrizo, Arizona.
