Bettina Colleen Ortega

May 25, 1937 — November 24, 2010

Services will be held at 10 am for our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Bettina Colleen Ortega on December 3, 2010 at the San Raphael Catholic Church, Concho, AZ. Interment will follow in the Concho Cemetery. Tina went to meet the Lord, while surrounded by her loving family, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in Flagstaff, AZ. She was born on May 25, 1937 in Tsaile, AZ into the T'aheedliinii Clan for Tl'aashch' Clan. Bettina, known to her family and friends as Betty or Tina, will be greatly missed. She was a very kind hearted, sweet person, and one of the nicest persons anyone could hope to meet. She would help all that were in need without a second thought. Her favorite pastime was listening to music of all genres and reading books, of which her favorite poem was "A Fool's Prayer" by Edward Rowland Sill, and her favorite author was Tony Hillerman. Tina came to Holbrook when she was 17 years old, where she met and married Antonio "Tony" Rico Ortega, and together they had 5 children. They later divorced. She worked numerous jobs through the years but dedicated 21 years to "her kids" at the Holbrook School District, the last 12 with the Jr. High School. The kids brought a lot of joy to her life and she worried about each one as if they were her own. Tina could also be found at Denny's on the weekends, where she worked for many years. Tina is survived by her children; Tom, Cindy (Harold Martinez), Matthew of Phoenix, Bobbi, Mary, and David of Flagstaff; brothers, Allen (Dolores ) Begay, Wesley Begay, and Gregory (Sarah) Begay; sisters, Sadie (Guillermo) Padilla, Ophelia Begay , and Sara (Bobby) Padilla; grandchildren, Elizabeth Brown, Nick Garcia, Faustino and Santino Martinez; Suzanne, Andrew, and Daniel Montgomery; Robert Conner, Michael, Jennifer, and Kimberly Ortega; Hope Ortega; great- grandchild, Abigail Gonzales. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Mary Sorrelman Begay; brothers, David, Kenneth, and Earl Begay; sister, Jean Begay; and grandchildren, Uriahas Ortega and Angel Martinez; son-in-law, Gairy Montgomery; nephews, Guillermo Padilla Jr., James Begay; and Tony Ortega. A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 2 2010 at the Owens Livingston Mortuary 409 N. 1st Ave., Holbrook from 4 pm to 6 pm with a reception to follow at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 6 pm to 8 pm. in the multi-purpose room.
