Helen Cook Childs

December 29, 1927 — September 19, 2010

In loving memory of our sweet mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Helen Cook Childs, whom, through her death, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 19, 2010 in Payson, Arizona. She was 82 years old. Helen was born on December 29, 1927 in Upper Carrizo, Arizona, at the family home, to the late Walter and Charlotte Cook. She spent her life in service to her family, friends and community and will be dearly missed by all, as she always will be in our hearts and in our memories. Helen loved her children, grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She used to be the cook for Headstart. She also was a Sunday School Teacher at the Carrizo Assembly of God Church in Carrizo. Helen had a quilting group that she participated in for many years at the church with W.M.C. and always enjoyed the fellowship of her "quilting friends". In her younger years, Helen had a job chopping down trees with the C.A.P. program and later was the Carrizo Community Supervisor with the C.E.T.A. program. She then became a cook for the Slashing Crew and her last employment was as a cook for the Fencing Crew. Many hundreds and thousands were blessed with delicious meals that she prepared using her cooking skills throughout the many years she worked as a cook. After she retired, she remained a full-time homemaker. Her family truly appreciated everything she did for them. Helen loved making handmade: camp dresses, dolls, pot holders, aprons and thoroughly enjoyed doing bead work and other arts and crafts. Helen is survived by her 3 sons: Delbert (Judy) Childs & family, Gilbert (Darlene) Childs & family, Daniel Childs; 1 daughter, Helena (Leroy) Bonito & family; 6 nephews: Luke Williams, Justin Williams, Rafael Williams, Leo Williams, Sr. Dennis Williams, Sr., Sandy Williams; 6 nieces: Josephine Gooday, Greta Ethelbah, Sally Palmer, Alvina Cook, Gloria Tortice, Ann Burnette; 9 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 4 god-children: Kenneth Cody, Janice Lupe, Gillespie Childs and Mercedes Cody. A two day & night wake for Helen will begin, 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 2, 2010 at her daughter, Helena C. Bonito's home, 135 Corduroy Court #6 in Carrizo. Helen's funeral service will also be at the home and will begin at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 4, 2010. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation for everyone's acts of kindness and prayers during this time.
