Kenneth Wayne West died late Friday night, August 20, 2010 at Springdale West Care Center in Mesa, Arizona from complications of a car accident he was in nearly 5 years ago. He was 54 years old. Kenneth was born on May 10, 1956 in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona to the late Elbie Bogan West and Helen Frances (Rutledge) West. Following his education he explored his career opportunities and found that he was very skilled working with his hands and quickly became known as a master mechanic. He worked at various places as an auto mechanic. Kenny would work on anybody's car at any time and at any place. He worked as a mechanic for many years prior to his accident. Kenny loved being in the outdoors as well. He loved a good fishing trip and he was an occasional hunter. He even loved his "big boy" toys, especially motorcycles. In his younger years, of course without his mother knowing, Kenny became quite the bullrider. A thrilling sport he truly enjoyed. Kenny was a gentle-hearted man who loved his family dearly. He especially enjoyed spending time with his daughter, grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews; as they always brightened his day. While a resident at the Springdale West Care Center, Kenny was known to be a great listener. He made friends with many of the staff members there and thoughtfully listened to what they had to say. When asked, he would offer his advise that was always full of wisdom and, many have said that he literally had changed their lives for the better. This gentle giant of a man will be missed my many, for he truly was a good man. Kenneth is survived by: his mother, Helen West of Show Low, Arizona; his daughter: Misty Rene' (Dustin) Cross of Payson, Arizona; grandchildren: Jonathan and McKenzie; brother-in-law: Cris (Virginia) McBride of Pinetop, Arizona; nieces and nephews: Dewaine (Laurie) McBride of Tucson, Arizona, Emily (Eric) Hancock of Safford, Arizona, Ellen (Brent) Brewer of Show Low, Arizona, Brian McBride of Tucson, Arizona, David (Tina) McBride of Santa Clara, California, Laura McBride of Mesa, Arizona; and his also survived by 12 grand-nieces and nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by: his father, Elbie, in 1979; sister: Barbara McBride in 1995; and 2 nieces: Carol McBride and Kristi Williamson. A graveside service for Kenneth will begin 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Lakeside Cemetery in Lakeside, Arizona.
