Alexandra Hammonds went peacefully to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, in Pinetop, Arizona. She was 88 years old. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lee in 1986. She was a loving mother to her sons: John (Vicki), Randy (Wanda), Gary (Erma); daughter: Dena (Zach); devoted grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with 3 on the way. Alexandra was born in Guamuchiel, Sinaloa, Mexico to Juan and Bernardina (Angulo) Gaxiola and was raised in Bisbee, Arizona. She clerked at Fort Huachuca during WWII and at Montgomery Ward in Tucson, where she met Lee Hammonds. They married on August 15, 1947. Upon her retirement from the USDA Forest Service, Alix pursued many hobbies, including bird-watching. She enjoyed a great game of Yahtzee. She lived her dream of spending summers at the cabin they built in Pinetop. A special "Thanks" to her good friend, Dorothy Anderson. Mom, you'll always be in our hearts and thoughts, until we meet again. A visitation will begin 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Our Lady of Fatima, 1950 W. Irvington Place in Tucson, Arizona, where the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will start at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at The Holy Hope Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in Lee's memory, to The American Cancer Society, 1636 N. Swan Blvd., Ste.#151, Tucson, Arizona have been suggested by her family.
