Loren Melvin "Mel" Ramsay passed away on July 15, 2010 at his home in Snowflake Arizona. He was the youngest of 13 children born to George Cheshire Ramsay and Mary Emmaline Gardner. Mel was born on January 15, 1921 in Snowflake and spent his entire life there. He worked for the Forest Service in 1941 until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1942. Mel spent three years in the Army and was sent to Africa and Italy. While in Italy he was in Rono, Anzio Landing and Po Valley where some of the heaviest fighting was seen. When he returned home from the war in 1945, as well as farming, he worked as a cook, irrigation boss for the town of Snowflake and a mail carrier for White Mountain Passenger Lines. He drove the Show Low to Payson route from 1967 until 1991 when he retired. Mel loved family, and spending time with his brother Edd. Mel is survived by his two children, Melva Johnson of Mesa and Mitchell "Mike" Ramsay of Prescott Valley; grandchildren: Marcie Hedlund of Queen Creek, Janalynn Johnson (Rick) of Mesa and Danny Johnson (Janet) of Mesa; great-grandchildren: Tiffani Hedlund (Josh), Ashlie Ketchum (Bryan) and Nicole Hedlund all of Queen Creek, Samantha Johnson of Nachodoches, Texas, Jasmine Johnson and Brittany Johnson of Luna, New Mexico and Andrew Johnson of Mesa; great great-grandchildren: Raedyn Hedlund and Kaleb Hedlund of Queen Creek, Madalyn Fenton of Nacogdoches, Texas and Gage Ketchum of Queen Creek. Mel was preceded in death by his grandson, Mickey Johnson of Luna, New Mexico and all 12 of his siblings. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Owens Livingston Mortuary - Heritage Chapel 84 E. 19 S., Snowflake on July 26, 2010 at 9:00 am, followed by internment at the R.V. "Mike" Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake.
