Lynnwood Hastings Kartchner

November 8, 1925 — July 9, 2010

Lynnwood Hastings Kartchner, of Snowflake, passed away July 9, 2010 in Snowflake. He was 84. Lynn was born November 8, 1925 in Taylor, AZ to the late Byrtle and Emma (McCleve) Kartchner. Lynn grew up in Taylor and attended High School in Snowflake before enlisting into the Navy at the age of 17. He served in WWII and was the Right Hand Quarter Master to the Ship Captain. He also commandeered his own tug ship from San Diego to Hawaii. After being Honorably Discharged from the service he moved back to the White Mountains, where he earned the respect from several local logging and lumber companies and began to drive for them. He married the love of his life Velva Mills in Show Low, AZ and they began their life together. Lynn was the lead surveyor for the Arizona Department of Transportation while constructing the road from McNary to Springerville. He also partnered with Tadd Reidhead at the B&R Lumber Company in Snowflake and worked for the Paper Mill for 20 years before his retirement. A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served in the Quorum Presidency. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an accomplished pilot. He will be missed by all whom had the opportunity to have known him. He is survived by his wife, Velva of Snowflake; sons, Randy (Jennifer) of Eager, Rick (Kathy) of Provo, UT formally Snowflake, Kayle of Chandler; grandchildren, Kamm, Cody, Chad, Kyle, Jared, Michael, Benjamin, Jacob; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Rhoton and Fern O'Neil. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris as well as several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Snowflake Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 175 W. 9th S. Snowflake, with the visitation beginning 1 hour prior. The concluding service and interment will be at the R.V. "Mike" Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake.
