Charles Emil Whiting

Charles Emil Whiting, affectionately know as Charlie, as well as Bud to a few, died quietly Saturday evening on April 24, 2010 at the Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low, Arizona surrounded by many of his family and friends. He was 64 years old. Charlie was born on May 17, 1945 in Eagar, Arizona to the late Elmer Wood "Humpie" and Rosiland (Rothlisberger) Whiting. Charlie served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967 and was stationed in Shweifurt, Germany as well as Ft. Hood, Texas. He was proud of his American heritage and considered it an honor to serve his country. Charlie loved his family more than anything in the world. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and was truly devoted to each of their individual needs. In his younger years, he worked at the papermill for Southwest Forest Industries. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; serving in various capacities of The Church including those of: a Home Teacher, Ward Clerk, Executive Secretary, High Priest Group Leader, member of several Elders' Quorum Presidencies, Boy Scout Leader where he received his Silver Beaver Award. He was also known as his ward's "comedian" as he was always able to come up with a quick clean joke. Charlie was sealed for Time and All Eternity to his Eternal Sweetheart, Lenora Mae (Lilly) Whiting in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also HAM Radio operator and was member of the Kachina Ham Radio Club and, ever the volunteer, volunteered his services to many civic organizations and activities. Charlie is survived by: his wife, Lenora Whiting of Show Low, Arizona; 1 son, Darin (Johanna) Whiting of Show Low, Arizona; 2 daughters: Kristi (Laren) Ellsworth of Linden, Arizona, Staci Whiting of Mesa, Arizona; 3 granddaughters: Charly Ellsworth, Jaime Whiting, Kaily Ellsworth; 6 grandsons: Forest Whiting, Tyler Ellsworth, Jesse Whiting, Tell Ellsworth, Aiden Whiting, Nicholas Curell; 3 brothers: Rick (Zola) Whiting of Eagar, Arizona, Robert Whiting of Eagar, Arizona, Carl (Karen) Whiting of Eagar, Arizona and 1 sister, Peggy (Gary) Mead of Springerville, Arizona. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, Arizona. The funeral service will begin 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Downtown Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 300 N. 11th Street in Show Low, Arizona with additional visitation beginning 1 hour prior. Bishop David Nikolaus will be conducting those services. The concluding services and interment, including military honors will be at the Eagar Cemetery in Eagar, Arizona.
