With family at her side, Sylvia Huber Thomas died Thursday, March 25, 2010 at her home in Pinedale, Arizona following a lengthy illness. She was 76 years old. Sylvia was born in Phoenix, Arizona to the late Kenneth Raymond Huber and Mildred Hood Huber. She was raised and went to school in Mesa, Arizona and graduated from Mesa High School. She later attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and completed her education at Arizona State University. Following her college education, Sylvia worked as a school secretary for the Mesa Public Schools for many years. She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout the years, Sylvia served many years in the youth organizations of The Church as well as its Relief Society. Sylvia and her husband served a mission for The Church to the Zurich Switzerland Mission. Most recently, she worked as a Temple Worker in the Snowflake Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sylvia enjoyed sewing and making clothes for her children. She was an accomplished quilter and many of her quilts now grace the homes of her children, grandchildren, aunts, nieces and nephews, as well as many of her friends. Sylvia will be remembered for her example of faith and endurance, especially these last 5 years as she valiantly battled the destructive cancer that ravaged her body. Sylvia is survived by: her husband, H. Dayle Thomas of Pinedale, Arizona; children: Kenneth (Gloria) Thomas of Mesa, Arizona, Susan Thomas of Phoenix, Arizona, Nancy Deluca of Mesa, Arizona, 7 grandchildren; her mother, Mildred Huber of Mesa, Arizona; brother, Larry (Joyce) Huber of Mesa, Arizona and her sister, Dianne (Ronnie) Turner of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The public visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Owens Livingston Mortuary - White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street in Show Low, Arizona. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 2, 2010 at the Pinedale Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (right off of Hwy 260 in between Pinedale and Clay Springs) where additional visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service. The services will be conducted by Bishop Paul O'Dair and the concluding service and interment will follow at the Pinedale Cemetery.
