Doris Ramona Wallace died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in Mesa, Arizona following a lengthy illness. She was 82. Doris was born on September 20, 1925 in Roswell, New Mexico to the late Walter Clinton and Theda Opal (Pilgrim) Thornton, who died in 1953 and 1963, respectively. She married George William Wallace, Sr. on January 21, 1943 in Roswell. George preceded her in death in 1966 at the age of 48. She then moved to California and worked several years as a regional manager for a large apartment housing complex in the Los Angeles area. Following her retirement, Doris moved back to her native New Mexico where she was an active member of Roswell's Adult Center and thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. In 1995 she moved to Arizona to be near her children. Doris is survived by her son, George William Wallace, Jr. (Ruth) of Vernon, Arizona; 2 daughters: Judy Hamm of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Marcilla Sanders (Gordon) of Mesa, Arizona; sister, Dixie Summersgill (James) of Roswell, New Mexico; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-granchildren. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Leona "Pete" Corn in 1987 and a brother, Richard C. "Ricky" Thornton in 1996. Private family services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at the South Park Cemetery in Roswell.
