Verna Pearl Turley, age 90, passed away October 8, 2007. She was born May 6, 1917 in Clarksdale, AZ, to Vern and Pearl Willis. She was the oldest of five children. She graduated from Snowflake High School and then attended Lambson Business College and Northern Arizona Teachers College (now Northern Arizona University). She was a cook at Girls Ranch at Aripine where she met Lavon Turley, whom she later married. She was also a Postmaster at Aripine before going to work as a secretary for the B.I.A. Indian Dorm in Snowflake where she retired after working for 17 years. She was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ where she held many positions. She and her husband, Lavon, served a mission to Tahiti and also a mission in the Snowflake Cannery after they had both retired. Verna loved growing a garden, working in her yard and most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Verna is survived by 3 children, L. Kay (Lynette) Turley, L. Vern (Jana) Turley both of Snowflake and Margo (Lowell) Pearce of Mesa; 19 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Ruthie Wasson and two brothers, Ira Willis and Lloyd Willis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavon, one daughter, Janice Larson, one grandchild, Barr Larson and one sister, Ruby Gardner. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday October 11th at the Snowflake Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
