Billie Tapaha died peacefully in the loving care of Hospice of the Valley's Coronado House in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, October 24, 2009, following a brief but courageous battle with prostate cancer. He also suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. Billie faced his illnesses with his sense of humor in tact and, also, with his family by his side. He was 82 years old. A Christmas baby, Billie was born on December 25, 1926 in Steamboat, Arizona. He lived his entire life in Arizona and worked many years as a rail line repairman for the railroad. He is survived by: his beloved wife and partner of 60 years, Mary W. Tapaha; 6 children: Benson Tapaha, Marilyn Boone, Darlene John, Norman Tapaha, Bennie Tapaha, Wallace Tapaha; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters that live in Steamboat, AZ. Billie was preceded in death by his oldest grandson, Monty J. Boone, who died at the age of 30. He was also preceded in death by his 3 brothers. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 29, 2009 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Holbrook Stake Center Chapel with the visitation to be held at 9:00 AM. Interment will be at the Holbrook Cemetery.
