Marilyn Arlene Smith died Sunday, August 30, 2009 at the Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low following a lengthy illness. She was 79 years old. Marilyn was born on January 5, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Joseph Pete and Mary Eileen (Swabota) Bievers. She moved to Arizona from Ohio 49 years ago and was a devoted homemaker to her family. This obituary is dedicated in loving memory of a dear wife, loving mother, and a beloved grandmother. She married the love of her life, Frank Morton Smith on October 1, 1949 in Monroe, Michigan. Together as a family she enjoyed camping and traveling around the country in their R.V. Marilyn also found much joy in working on her word search puzzles. Even though her husband, Frank had his own pilot's license, Marilyn never enjoyed flying in the plane with him. Marilyn is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Frank Smith of Show Low, Arizona; 5 children: Barbara McGlaughlin of Fort Myers, Florida, Cynthia MacDonald of Dallas, Texas, Denise Ingram (Mark) of Tucson, Arizona, Gloria Hammond (Kenneth) of Vernon, Arizona, Kim Ann Traver (Jim) of Enoch, Idaho; sister, Betty Swalley (Jim) of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: a son, Mark Smith; daughter, Mary Louise Bering; sisters: Violet, Anna; and by 1 great-granddaughter. Private family services will be held atop Mt. Lemon in Tucson, Arizona at a later date.
