Yvonne Monell O'Dell Shermantine Phillips

Yvonne Monell O'Dell Shermantine Phillips of Holbrook, Arizona passed away peacefully in her home on December 16, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. She was born on August 20, 1934 in Grandfield, OK to C.W. O'Dell and Josephine Wood who preceded her in death. Yvonned was an active member of several organizations including the Dusty River Quilters Guild, The American Legion Post #37 and she served several years on the Women's Auxiliary. She was one the original organizers of the Holbrook Elks Lodge's annual Christmas dinner that is delivered to shut-ins and folks that just needed company. She believed that no one should be alone at Christmas. Yvonne volunteered her time at the Senior Center and had started a crafters corner. She loved to sew and craft and she was an extremely talented and creative woman. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. But her true joy in life was being a very proud and active grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Larry "Honey" Phillips; 3 daughters; Diana (Nathan) Shelley, Darlene Shermantine, Melinda(Phillip) Rose; one step daughter, Michele (Tim); one step son, Greg Phillips; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; four brothers; J.W. (Donna) O'Dell, Delbert O'Dell, Ralph (Sharon) O'Dell and Ray O'Dell. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Jacki Halsey and Veta Fae Plant and one brother, Herbert O'Dell. Donations may be made in Yvonne's name to the Holbrook Senior Citizens Center. A Criptside service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Holbrook Cemetery next to the Mausoleum #46.
