Clorice Rhoton, age 90, passed away February 18, 2008, in Snowflake, AZ. She was born May 15, 1917 in St. Johns, AZ to the late Edward and Cecelia (Hamblin) Gibbons. She met her future husband, Bendrew Rhoton, at a dance in Vernon. They were married August 10, 1936, in Winslow. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in October of 1938. Through out their marriage together they cared for more than 80 foster children. She was the first Lamanite teacher for the Winslow Seminary which was attached to the Winslow Dormitory. One of her greatest joys came from serving the Lamanite families. Clorice served faithfully in various church callings, including the Primary, M.I.A. and she thoroughly enjoyed visiting teaching. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family. Clorice is survived by 7 children; Edward Rhoton (Jan) of Tooele, Utah, Douglas Rhoton (Lorna) of Dallas, OR, Vergene Walker (Lloyd) of Richmond, Utah, Bendrew Rhoton (Debra) of Virden NM, Darwin Rhoton (Andrea) of Eagar, Terry Rhoton (Gail) of Lock Haven PA and Nalene Dobbins (Carl) of Gilbert; 33 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bendrew; 4 brothers Kenneth, Charles "Gus", Carlos (her twin) and Horace Gibbons and 2 sisters, Wilma "Billie" Montano and Madge Barbezat Kindall. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Sat. Feb. 23rd at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at the Shumway Cemetery. Owens Mortuary of Snowflake handled arrangements.
