Lois Irene Nutting Powell, age 78, of Holbrook, passed away in her sleep on Sunday December 17, 2006 at home. Mrs. Powell was a homemaker and a substitute schoolteacher. She was born April 30, 1928 in St. Johns. Her family moved to Holbrook in 1929, where she attended school, and graduated from Holbrook High School in 1946. Following high school she attended The University of Arizona where she studied elementary education. It was there that she met, Edwin R. Powell, they married July 21, 1951 in Holbrook. They made their home in Tucson before returning to Holbrook in 1954. She was a life member of the order of the eastern star. She was a well-known vocalist and did beautiful handwork. During her college years she was a member of Alpha-Chi-Sorority. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church. She is survived by four sons, Edwin Dean Powell of Holbrook, Michael R. Powell of Mesa, Donald N. Powell of Tacoma, Washington, and Jeffery D. "J.D." Powell (Tracy) of Falls Church, Virginia. as well as four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin R. Powell on February 1, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday December 22,2006 at the United Methodist Church in Holbrook with a visitation one hour prior.
