George Pogue, age 73, passed away October 18, 2007, at his home in Joseph City. Mr. Pogue, a retired meat cutter and manager for Joseph City Utility Co., was born December 7, 1933 in Glendale. He grew up in Tolleson and worked on his family's farm as a child. When he was 16, he began working as a meat cutter at Vans Lockers in Tolleson. In 1955, he was drafted into the Amy. He returned to his job at Vans in 1957. It was then that he became re-acquainted with Elaine Cahoon, a childhood friend. They were married on June 22, 1960, in Cashion, AZ and following their marriage, they made their home in Tolleson until they moved to Joseph City in 1965. There he began working in construction, but enjoyed cutting meat on the weekends. He enjoyed working on his farm and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Pogue of Joseph City; a daughter, Shonna Willingham of Camp Verde; 2 sons, Ricky Alan Pogue of Winslow and Sam Pogue of Joseph City; one brother, Roy Pogue of Green River, Utah; 2 sisters, Ruby Tifft of Prescott and Artie Mae Moore of Tennessee and 8 grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 22, 2007, at the Joseph City Cemetery.
