Damien Montoya, 21 of Holbrook, died July 9, 2006 while in the line of duty, serving our country in Iraq. He was born in Portsmouth Virginia Naval Hospital. His family moved to Holbrook when he was 5 months old. Damien attended Holbrook schools, graduating from Holbrook High School in 2004. He enlisted in the Army right out of High School and attended Basic Training in Fort Benning, GA. Following Basic Training he was stationed in Fort Hood, TX. He was deployed to Iraq in December 2005 and was killed in the line of duty in Baghdad. He loved music and skateboarding (he even took his skateboard to Fort Hood), video games, and fishing. Damien is survived by his parents, Victoria G. Turley of Holbrook and Michael F. Montoya; sister Danielle Montoya of Show Low, brother Randy Turley of Holbrook; niece Giselle Mlambo; maternal grandparents, Stan and Pat Freeland of Holbrook; and paternal grandparents Felix and Christine Montoya of Holbrook. Visitation will be Monday, July 17, 2006 from 6-8 pm at Owens Mortuary in Holbrook. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at 10 am at the First Baptist Church, Holbrook. Owens Mortuary of Holbrook handled the arrangements.
