Long time Carbon County resident Cathryn Carla Mastel died peacefully at home on February 21, 2008. She was 52 years old. Cathryn was born November 17, 1955 in San Diego, California, the daughter of Betty (Taylor) and Kenneth Bant. She moved to Rawlins, Wyoming, in 1974 where she met and married Patrick Houser in 1980. They raised two children, Nikole and Carly. Cathryn worked for WYDOT for almost 12 years, the last nine of which as supervisor of the Rawlins Driver's Services Office. She met Jerome Mastel in Saratoga, Wyoming in 1995. In 2001 they married in Hawaii and moved to Eagle River, Alaska, where they lived for 3-1/2 years. While in Alaska, Cathryn was employed with Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles and Jerome by the U.S. Forest Service. Cathryn and Jerome moved to Arizona in 2005, and have lived in Overgaard for the last three years where Cathryn has worked as a realtor. Cathryn loved people, which reflected in her roles as a driver's services specialist and realtor. But more than that, she dearly loved her family and the many friends she had. Outside of work and home, she enjoyed floating, fishing, camping, and visiting her many friends. Her most resent joy was the birth of her first grandson on December 29, 2007. Cathryn is survived by her husband Jerome of Overgaard, her mother and step-father Betty and Charlie Jones of Pahrump, Nevada, her Father Kenneth Bant of Prescott, Arizona, her daughter Nikole Houser of Clay Springs, Arizona, her daughter and son-in-law Carly Houser and Donny Peterson of Costa Mesa, California, her very special grandson Aydin Patrick Peterson of Costa Mesa, and her brother Steven Bant and his fiance' Sherri Baker of Pahrump. Funeral Services were held at the Faith Lutheran Church in Overgaard, February 27th, 2008. The very reverend and family friend Pastor Bernt Larson, her loving family, and her very dear friends combined together to perform this Memorial Service. Cathryn was cremated and will be taken home to Wyoming at a later date where her ashes will be scattered in the mountains and river she so loved. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to a charity of choice.
