Marie N. Hunter, born August 28, 1922 in Vernon, Arizona to Don Carlos Nicoll and Ethel Verena Naegle, passed away at her home in Vernon on August 17, 2008. Marie attended school in Mesa, graduating from Mesa High in 1940. She was the third of ten children born to her parents. On July 22, 1941 she married Joseph Thomas Hunter "J.T.". Together they made their first home in Gilbert. In 1953 they moved to Wellton, AZ. They moved to Blythe, California in 1968. When they retired in 1988, Marie and J.T. returned to her place of birth, Vernon. Married for 67 years, J.T. and Marie enjoyed an eternal companionship. Throughout her life Marie was most importantly a wife, mother and homemaker and had a devotion to her church callings. She was active in the business that they established both in Wellton and Blythe from 1953-1978. A life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marie served in many capacities. She taught in the Sunday School, Young Women's Programs, Primary and Early Morning Seminary. She served as President in the Relief Society twice and in the presidency of the primary organization, both in the Ward and Stake level. Marie is survived by her husband, Joseph Thomas Hunter; her three daughters, Janine Marie Hackett, Judy Lynn Hunter, Marla Jo (Stewart B.) Olson; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Her surviving brothers and sisters include, Phyllis Shreeve, Guy A. Nicoll, Joyce Gross and John Nicoll. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Casper C., Don Carlos, Jr., Merlyn and Kenneth; 1 sister, Shirley. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 22, 2008 in Vernon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a viewing beginning at 9:00 A.M. Interment will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
