Glen LaVar Flake, 81, of Snowflake, Arizona, passed away Thursday October 2, 2008 in his home. He was born September 23, 1927 in Snowflake to Silas Eugene & Lillian DeWitt Flake, where he lived most of his life. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man he served a mission for his church in the East Central States Mission and in his later years he served with his wife Janet in the Munich, Germany Mission. His life's occupation was in law enforcement where he retired after 30 years of service, 12 of which was spent as Navajo County Sheriff. He also served a term in the Arizona State Legislature. He was a fourth generation cattle rancher and enjoyed raising Quarter Horses. He is survived by his wife, Janet Schneider Flake whom he married in 1950 in the Arizona LDS Temple. They are the parents of nine children; Lance (Kristen) Flake, Margo (Keith) Clouse, Tamara (Doug) Mills, Monty (deceased), Mitzi (Joe) Papa, Joan (Craig) Solomon, Dan (Kirsten) Flake, James (Laura) Flake, and Brad (Tami) Flake. He has a numerous posterity with 41 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Sanford D. Flake, a sister, Sherry Fae Evans. He was preceded in death by his son, Monty; parents Eugene & Lillian Flake; grandson Sean Clouse, sisters, Ila Faun Evans and Imogene Peterson. A visitation will be held, Sunday October 5, 6-8 P.M. at Sank Flake Heritage Barn. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, October 6, 2008 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Snowflake Main Street Chapel 84 N. Main Street, Snowflake with a visitation 1 hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be donated to the Snowflake Heritage Foundation Granary Restoration Project, C/O Steve Flake 510 W. F Bar Lane, Snowflake, Arizona 85937 in name of Glen Flake.
