John R. DeSpain, age 54, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 9, 2008 in Holbrook. He was born in Holbrook on June 10, 1953 to George "Teen" and Barbara DeSpain. In 1971 John graduated from Holbrook High excelling in school and in sports, being a State Champion Wrestler, among other things. John worked for many years as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He ran Asphalt Hot Plants in Arizona and in Hawaii for several years. While in Hawaii his love was scuba diving. Johns other interests included water skiing, hunting, fishing, target shooting, mechanics and rock & fossil collecting. John suffered declining health in recent years following spinal surgeries with cancer ending his life. Besides his parents, John is survived by immediate family members: son, Chad; daughter, Jodie, her daughter and his only grandchild, Siera all of Holbrook; his brother, Bill of Queen Creek and his sister Marlene DeWitt of Show Low. He also left a large extended family and many friends who will miss him very much. At John's request and with his family's acquiescence, no memorial services will be held.
