Stephen Rex Cooley of Holbrook, Arizona passed away peacefully in his home after a courageous battle with cancer on December 24, 2009. He was born June 6, 1950 in Mesa, Arizona to Hollis Dean Cooley and Ellen Sophia McLaws who preceded him in death. He was 59 years old. Steve was a kind, loving and generous man with an awesome sense of humor, infectious laugh and passion for life. He enjoyed his career of 28 years as a Control Operator for Cholla Power Plant. Steve was an entrepreneur and dabbled in several business ventures including petrified wood excavation, jewelry making and coffee roasting. His true love was spending time with his loving family and being a proud grandpa. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Victoria Cooley; 6 daughters: Kimberly Cooley, Laura MaKeeff, Robin (Michael) Ramirez, Katrina (Jason) Castillo, Nicole Cooley and Cindy Cooley; 2 sons; Nicholas Cooley and Casey Cooley; 10 grandchildren; Lacey, Morgan, Angelica, Taylor, Marcus, Madelyn, Gabriel, Trinity, Ian, and Maya; 2 brothers; Dean (Janet) Cooley and Rosel (Sheryl) Cooley; 2 sisters; Nancy (Brian) Kerbs and Betty (David) Beaty. He was preceded in death by his sister Gay Kruglick. Steve also leaves behind too many friends to count. He was always willing to lend his hand to a friend in need and his kind spirit will truly be missed by all. His funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Holbrook Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1127 Helen Avenue in Holbrook. The visitation will begin 1 hour prior at the church. The concluding service and interment will immediately follow the funeral at the Show Low Cemetery in Show Low, Arizona.
