Lanar Cluff of Overgaard, Arizona, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy illness. He was 79. Lanar was born on December 10, 1928 in Colonia Pacheco, Mexico to the late Heber Manasseh and Amanda (Mortenson) Cluff. He moved to Arizona from his native Mexico in 1945 at the age of 17. He met and married his sweetheart, Patti Gwen Spear, on February 25, 1954 in Colonia Juarez, Mexico. Their marriage was later solemnized on November 1, 1957 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. They most recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Lanar was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a truck driver throughout his life and, when he retired, he had owned his own trucking company for many years. Lanar Cluff is survived by: his wife, Patti Cluff of Overgaard, AZ; 4 children: Zola Larson of Gilbert, AZ, Adrian Cluff (Shiela) of Mesa, AZ, Mandy Stephens (Dane) of Overgaard, AZ, Terrilyn White (Dr. Gary) of Murrietta, CA; 1 brother, Loral Cluff (Annabelle); 3 sisters: Erma Whetten (Ray), Viva Whetten (Carl), Zola Whetten; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Lanar was preceded in death by 6 of his siblings. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Heber Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the Heber Ward Chapel, where there will be additional visitation 1 hour prior. Interment will follow at the Heber Cemetery and military honors will be rendered by the American Legion.
