Mary Louise Byjoe passed away in Tucson, Arizona on December 26, 2007. She was born on September 28, 1940 at home near Keams Canyon, Arizona. She was born into the Red Bottom Clan and born for the Water Flows Together Clan. She attended Keams Canyon Boarding School as well as attending school in Albuquerque, NM. She attended and graduated high school in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Later, she obtained her CNA certification in nursing in South Dakota. She worked at the Holbrook hospital before becoming employed with Keams Canyon Indian Health Services. She retired from there after 30 years of service. She met Howard Byjoe, Sr. in 1964, whom she married and they had two sons, Howard Jr. and Patrick Paul. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Howard Byjoe, Sr.; brother, Wilson Phillips; her father, John B. Phillip; and mother, Nancy Phillips. She is survived by her two sons, five grandchildren, four sisters, and three brothers.
