To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heavens, a time to be born and a time to die. The season for Reece L. Brewer arrived Thursday January 25, 2007 as he passed the veil into the presence of our Lord and Savior. He was born November 25, 1924 in Mesa, Arizona. He was the oldest son of Ivan and May Brewer. He grew up close to nature and developed a love of nature through his activities as a woodsman and hunter. In 1943 Reece joined the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theater of World War II, participating in operations in Guadalcanal, Okinawa and Luzon Philippines. War taught Reece the value of freedom and he stood ready for the rest of his life to defend liberty at all costs. In 1946 he married Afton Savage and they were blessed with four daughters and one son. They separated in 1969 and in 1975 he married Hazel Marie Baum and gained another six children. Reece worked for Southwest Forest Industries paper mill in Snowflake for 25 years before retiring. He loved to garden and had one of the finest gardens in Snowflake. He was always very generous with the harvest from his garden. He left a legacy of Faith, Testimony, Honor and Integrity. Reece is survived by 5 sons, Randy Baum of Texas, Russ Baum of Utah, Ed and Bob Baum of Heber and Mike Brewer of Mesa; 6 daughters, Pam Ferrin of Idaho, Pat Von Haden of Virginia, Kathleen Hamilton of Springerville, Mariann Bradbury of Utah, Pennie Just of Mesa and Susan Norman of Prescott; 4 brothers, Larry Brewer of Oregon, Kay Brewer of Utah, Phil Brewer of Snowflake and Melvin Brewer of Taylor; two sisters, Nellie Stalworth of Utah and Marjie Aloof Hawaii; 41 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie in July 2006; his parents; a brother, Duane; a sister, Luelva; a grandson, Chad Baum and 3 great-grandsons, Kevin G., Hans G. and Tyrone G. Ferrin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday January 29th at the Snowflake Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a viewing one hour prior to services at the church and from 6-8:00 P.M. Sunday January 28th at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake. Interment will follow the services at the Snowflake Cemetery.
