Vilas Bassett

Vilas "Sam" Bassett, age 68, passed away, Friday, January 11, 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born November 3, 1939 to the late Wayne and Veronica (Dwyer) Bassett in Plattsburgh, NY. Sam served in The United States Air Force for 3 years in Turkey. He worked as a prison guard for 25 years in New York retiring in 1986. He also was a school bus driver for 18 years. He loved to travel, ride his motorcycle, and he loved to give his companion, Myrna flowers. Sam was a friend to everyone and he considered Arizona his home. He is survived by his companion of 16 years, Myrna Ashcraft; 1 brother, Gerrard (Judy) Bassett; 1 nephew, James Bassett. The Funeral will be 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Owens Mortuary Chapel 409 N. 1st Avenue in Holbrook with visitation 1 hour prior.
