Wilfrid Charles "Bill" Bailey, age 89, of Snowflake, passed away November 8, 2007, in Show Low. Mr. Bailey, a retired Anthropologist for the University of Georgia, was born May 3, 1918 in Cicero, Illinois. He grew up and attended school in Illinois. Following high school, he attended Junior College in Illinois, then moved to Tucson and attended the University of Arizona where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Anthropology. While attending the U of A he met Ethelene Scott and they were married June 7, 1941. Following their marriage, they moved to Illinois where he attended the University of Chicago. He was drafted into the military in 1943. He completed his military service in 1945 and returned to the University of Chicago where he received his PhD. He taught at the University of Texas until 1955. He then taught at Mississippi State University before teaching at the University of Georgia in 1962. He retired from the University of Georgia in 1984 and moved to Tucson in 1986. His wife preceded him in death in February of 1995 and following her death, he moved to Snowflake to be close to his children. He enjoyed reading, gardening and stamp collecting. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including, Bishop, Branch President, Temple Worker, as well as serving in the Bishop's Store House. Bill is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Littlejohn of Houston, TX and Ruth Wilson of Chilliwack, British Columbia; two sons, Charles Edward Bailey of Tucson and James Arthur Bailey of Snowflake; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, 2007, at 10:00 A.M. at the Temple View Chapel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a visitation one hour before services at the church and from 6-8:00 P.M. Sunday November 11th at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson, Tuesday November 13th at 3:00 P.M.
