Leslie Scott Kimzey

December 5, 1940 — October 16, 2020

Leslie Scott Kimzey, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Snowflake, Arizona on October 16, 2020, surrounded by his family. He fought a valiant fight during an extended battle with cancer.

Scott was born December 5, 1940, in Worland, Wyoming, the second of three children born to Clarence Leslie and Virginia Viola (Whitlock) Kimzey.

Scott spent his childhood in Worland, where he attended school and began delivering newspapers in 6th grade. He learned early to work hard, a skill that he continued throughout his life. He worked in management positions for most of his adult life, receiving recognition and awards for excellence in nearly every position he held. As a manager, he was kind and patient, making him a favorite with everyone who worked with him.

He often took a fatherly and later grandfatherly role with many of the younger workers, sharing wisdom earned though his own life experiences.

He graduated from Worland High School in 1959. During his high school years, Scott met his lifelong sweetheart, Patricia Ann Grable. They began dating when she was 15 and he was 16. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 14, 1961. Theirs was a sweet romance that continued through 62 years together. They loved spending time with each other, their four children, and many grandchildren.

Scott and Pat both loved gardening and growing things. In 1975, they purchased a commercial greenhouse, flower shop and Radio Shack franchise in their hometown. Scott grew many of the plants they sold and offered landscaping services. Even after moving on to other employment, Scott loved creating beautiful landscaping for each home they lived in. After retiring, he purchased land in Snowflake, Arizona, where he and his sons created a thriving family farm. He worked hard in his “retirement” doing what he loved most until his illness advanced earlier this summer.

Scott had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease others. He often said, “I only tease people I like” and he teased everyone! Whether it was his family, friends, co-workers, or nurses, no one was immune from his sense of fun and laughter.

Scott was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to serve people, and rarely arrived empty-handed. He usually brought food he had made or produce from his garden. He lived his faith and loved his family. His loss will be felt by many who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, followed by his beloved wife, Pat in August of 2018, son-in-law, Jose Dastas in August of 2020.

Survivors include by his four children: David (Nancy) Kimzey, Jalaire Brinegar, Sharilyn Dastas, and Devon  Kimzey, all of Snowflake; his sister Denny Bryant of Worland, his brother Bruce (Judy) Kimzey of Phoenix, as well as his 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services  will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 24, at the Pioneer Park LDS Chapel at 506 1st St E, Snowflake, Arizona. Visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to services at the church.

Burial will follow at the R.V. “Mike” Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake, Arizona.
